Overview: Credits-Based Pricing
Jasper uses a hybrid pricing model that combines a platform fee with consumption-based billing via credits. Core features such as Chat, Agents, Studio, and IQ remain unlimited and are included in all business plans.
What Costs Credits?
Credits are shared across an entire workspace—there is one “bank” for all users. Actions that currently require credits include:
- API and MCP usage: Charged on the credit system.
- Grid usage: Generating outputs in the Grid incurs a “row surcharge” (credits per output row). The Grid includes a test mode with free rows for experimentation.
- Advanced tools: Such as Research & Optimization Agent runs
Note: The list of credit-based actions will expand as more premium features are launched.
How Workspaces Get and Manage Credits
Base Credits and Purchasing More
- Included Credits: Business workspaces receive a base number of credits with their platform fee.
- Buying Additional Credits: More credits can be purchased through contacting your Jasper account team. You may also contact our support team at hey@jasper.ai
Credit Plans: Prepaid vs. Pay-as-You-Go
- Prepaid: Credits are purchased in packs, usually at a discounted rate. They expire on contract renewal or if unused by a specified date.
- Pay-as-You-Go (PAYG): Usage is charged monthly for any overage above included credits. PAYG is flexible and can have a maximum monthly cap.
Credit Meter and Tracking
- Credit Meter: A real-time credit meter displays available credits in the workspace—visible in the Grid and Canvas applications.
- Action Visibility: The number of credits an action will consume is shown before execution (e.g., by the “Run” button).
Admin Controls and User Permissions
- Controlling Credit Access: By default, all workspace users can spend credits. Admins can disable credit access per user in Settings > Team. Disabling credit spend for a user takes priority over any per-user credit limit.
- Per-User Credit Limits: Admins and IT Admins can now set a monthly credit limit on any individual user from Settings > Team. When a user reaches their limit, credit-consuming features (Grid, Agents, API/MCP) are paused for the rest of the month — non-credit features remain fully accessible. Limits reset on the 1st of each calendar month, and mid-month adjustments take effect immediately. You can remove a limit at any time to return a user to unlimited access.
- Bulk Limit Changes: Select multiple users and apply the same credit limit in a single action. The Credit limit and Credit usage columns on the Team settings table let you monitor individual consumption at a glance.
- Setting PAYG Limits: Admins set and manage PAYG/overage limits in Workspace Settings under the Credit Settings section. Users receive alerts as they approach limits.
- Usage Visibility: Admins access credit balance and usage breakdowns (by feature, over time, and soon by user) in Workspace Settings.
- Notifications: Admins receive in-agent and/or email alerts at defined low-credit thresholds (10,000 → 5,000 → 1,000 → 0).
- Audit Log: Changes to overage settings are not currently tracked in the audit log but are planned for future updates.
Using Credits in Jasper: Step-by-Step
1. Viewing and Tracking Credits
- Go to Workspace Settings > Plans > Credit Settings.
- View total available credits and recent usage. Usage charts break down credits by feature and (coming soon) by user.
2. Running Credit-Based Actions
- When running an action that requires credits (e.g., adding rows in the Grid, API calls, Research & Optimization Agents), you will see the credit cost before execution.
- A testing area in Grid allows a set number of free rows to test workflows before incurring charges.
3. Managing Credit Spending Permissions
- Admins can disable or enable credit spending for users individually.
- Icons identify which users can spend credits; access can be managed via a menu next to each team member.
3b. Setting Per-User Credit Limits
- Navigate to Settings > Team.
- Open the overflow menu next to any user and select Set credit limit.
- Enter the monthly credit amount for that user — limits reset on the 1st of each calendar month.
- To update an existing limit, select Edit credit limit from the same overflow menu.
- To apply the same limit to multiple users at once, select multiple users and use the bulk action.
- To remove a limit entirely, open the overflow menu, select Edit credit limit, and clear the value.
4. Adding or Adjusting Credits
- Additional credits are purchased through your Jasper account team or by contacting hey@jasper.ai. In-agent purchasing options are coming soon.
5. Setting Overages/Spending Controls
- Admins choose whether overages (PAYG) are allowed and can set monthly limits per workspace.
Troubleshooting and Notifications
- Low Balance Alerts: Notifications are provided as balances hit (10k/5k/1k/0) and when PAYG max is reached.
- Workspace Access: If a workspace runs out of prepaid and PAYG credits, advanced features will not function until more credits are added.
- Audit Usage: The Usage dashboard helps identify which users or actions are consuming the most credits (coming soon).
